Common questions about CITYBOXING certification courses, fees, ACE CEC credits, assessment, and qualifications

Training is conducted primarily in English, but movement demonstration and hands-on practice are language-independent. If needed, we recommend bringing a translator for the written theory exam.
Those who do not pass receive one free retake opportunity, to be completed within 6 months on-site. If the retake is unsuccessful, re-enrollment is required.
All CITYBOXING certifications are valid for 3 years. Coach Track (Levels 1–3) requires annual teaching hours: 100 hrs/year for Boxing Technical Expert, 200 hrs/year for Boxing Functional & Rehabilitation Expert, 300 hrs/year for Boxing Performance Expert. Mentor Track (Levels 4–5) requires proof of professional team leadership. Renewal fee is $150–$250 depending on level. Grace period of 6 months after expiry.
A 1-year minimum gap between levels is mandatory. You may not test for the next level until 12 months after your previous certification date. This ensures you have adequate time to apply your learning in real coaching environments.
Coach Track (Levels 1–3) focuses on coaching athletes directly — from beginners to elite performers. Mentor Track (Levels 4–5) focuses on educating other coaches and designing certification systems. Levels 4–5 require Level 3 Coach certification plus 3+ years of experience.
Our gym is located in downtown San Diego with numerous hotels, apartments, and restaurants within walking distance. We provide a recommended accommodation list after your enrollment is confirmed. Meals and lodging are at your own expense.
To ensure teaching quality, each session is limited to 12-16 participants depending on the program.
We recommend focusing on one at a time. However, holding dual certifications (e.g., Boxing + Muay Thai) may give you priority review when applying for Boxing Performance Expert.
City Boxing is one of San Diego's most established and reputable MMA gyms, operating for over 20 years with a 4.7-star rating on Google. Our Coach Track carries ACE Continuing Education Credits. Our Mentor Track is WBC-audited. This certification reflects our internal coach selection standard and carries strong recognition in the U.S. West Coast combat sports community.

Your personal data is stored in encrypted databases and accessed only by authorized staff. We comply with standard data protection practices.
After passing your assessment, log in to your ACE account and submit your CITYBOXING certificate under 'Continuing Education Credits.' Enter course details: Level 1 = 1.7 CECs, Level 2 = 1.5 CECs, Level 3 = 1.4 CECs (4.6 total for full Coach Track). ACE typically processes CEC submissions within 5–7 business days. Level 1 (Boxing Technical Expert) is $1,200. Level 2 (Boxing Functional & Rehabilitation Expert) is $1,800. Level 3 (Boxing Performance Expert) is $2,500. Level 4 (Assistant Mentor) is $2,200. Level 5 (Certified Mentor) is invitation-only with no tuition. All fees include training, assessment, certification, and official gear. Travel, accommodation, and meals are not included.
Yes. For Coach Track levels (1–3), we offer a 2-installment plan: 50% deposit to secure your spot, and the remaining 50% due 14 days before training begins. For Mentor Track levels (4–5), payment is due in full upon acceptance. Contact us to arrange a payment plan.

Full refund available 30+ days before the start date. 50% refund for cancellations 15–30 days before. Within 15 days of start: no refund, but one free reschedule to a future session. If City Boxing cancels a course, you receive a full refund or free reschedule. All refund requests must be submitted in writing via email.
We provide all training equipment during the program: hand wraps, gloves, focus mitts, heavy bags, and protective gear. You only need to bring comfortable athletic wear, indoor training shoes, and a water bottle. If you have your own preferred gloves or wraps, feel free to bring them.
Yes. If your U.S. visa application is denied, provide the official denial letter and we will issue a full refund or allow a free transfer to a future session, whichever you prefer. This policy applies even within the standard 15-day window.
Level 1 requires you to be at least 18 years old, have a high school diploma or equivalent, and hold a valid CPR / AED certification. No prior boxing coaching experience is required — we welcome motivated individuals from all backgrounds.
Level 1 is a 5-day intensive (40 hours). Level 2 is a 10-day intensive (80 hours). Level 3 is a 15-day intensive plus thesis (120 hours). Level 4 is a 10-day program plus teaching practicum (80 hours). Level 5 is a 12-day program plus system design defense (96 hours). All training is in-person and full-time.

Absolutely. Level 1 certifies you as a Boxing Technical Expert, qualified to teach fundamental boxing techniques to beginners in a gym or studio setting. Many of our graduates start coaching part-time or full-time right after Level 1. As you progress through Levels 2 and 3, your coaching scope expands to more advanced populations.
